Man accused of stealing $400 from woman’s bag in Girne casino
Girne, North Cyprus – A man identified as ST has been remanded in police custody for three days after allegedly stealing $400 in cash from the handbag of a woman he had recently met at a casino in Girne.
ST, a Turkish citizen appeared before a Girne court following the incident, which reportedly took place on July 16, 2025, around 8:00 PM at the Grand Pasha Casino.
According to police testimony, the suspect entered the casino as a guest alongside a woman identified as C.T. (49), whom he had recently met.
While inside the casino, C.T. left her cream-colored Chanel handbag on a slot machine. It is alleged that ST took advantage of the situation and stole $400 in cash from the bag.
The theft came to light after the woman filed a complaint, prompting authorities to review surveillance footage from the casino. The suspect was positively identified and subsequently arrested under a detention warrant.
Police informed the court that the investigation is still ongoing, noting that the stolen money has not yet been recovered. Authorities also stated that the suspect’s claims regarding the money need to be verified or refuted.
After reviewing the testimony, the judge ruled that the suspect be held in police custody for an initial period of three days to allow investigators to continue their inquiries.
