Driver and passengers fined after dangerous ride goes viral in Gazimağusa

Police in Gazimağusa, north Cyprus have issued hefty fines to a driver and two passengers after footage showing dangerously unsafe passenger transport went viral on social media. 

The incident, which occurred on Havva Şentürk Street, showed passengers being transported in a manner that posed a clear risk to their safety.

According to a statement from the Police Press Office, the driver was fined 6,520.35 Turkish lira and given 10 penalty points for carrying passengers outside the vehicle’s fixed seats.

In addition, two passengers who were seen standing or seated outside designated seats in the vehicle were each fined 4,346.90 Turkish lira. Police confirmed that legal proceedings have been initiated against both the driver and the passengers.
