Theft at Ercan airport: Suspect caught stealing cash from passenger's wallet
Ercan, north Cyprus – June 8, 2025: A 43-year-old man has been taken into custody following a theft incident at Ercan Airport, where he allegedly stole 8,000 Turkish Lira from another passenger's wallet at an X-ray security checkpoint.
According to a statement from the Police Press Office, the incident occurred on the morning of June 7, 2025, at approximately 9:00 a.m.
The suspect, identified as T.D., was passing through the security screening area when he reportedly took a wallet belonging to another traveler from the conveyor belt and removed 8,000 TL in cash.
Following a review of airport surveillance footage, authorities identified and apprehended T.D. He has since been arrested, and an investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
Officials have not yet released further details, including whether the stolen money has been recovered or if T.D. will face formal charges in the coming days.
Authorities are continuing their inquiry into the matter to determine whether additional individuals were involved.
