Student caught with over 100 grams of narcotics in Lefkoşa raid

Lefkoşa, Cyprus – June 18, 2025: A student in north Cyprus resident in Lefkoşa, has been remanded in custody for an additional six days following a narcotics raid that led to the seizure of approximately 105 grams of suspected illegal substances. 

The operation was carried out by the Narcotics and Anti-Smuggling Directorate on June 13, 2025.

During the court proceedings, the police stated that a police team raided a residence in the Kızılbaş area of Lefkoşa. The operation resulted in the discovery of approximately 85 grams and an additional 20 grams of substances believed to be illegal narcotics. Also seized were a precision scale with suspected drug residues and 6,600 Turkish Lira in cash, allegedly proceeds from drug sales.

The police confirmed that the suspect was arrested on the spot and that an initial three-day detention order was obtained to facilitate the ongoing investigation.

He further noted that the seized materials have been sent for laboratory analysis, though the results are still pending. Additional investigative steps remain, including obtaining witness statements and reviewing security camera footage relevant to the case.

Considering the police request and the ongoing nature of the investigation, the judge approved an extension of the suspect’s detention for six more days to allow authorities to complete their inquiries.

The investigation continues.
