Man found to be living illegally in TRNC during visit to the police to obtain document

Lefkoşa, TRNC — A man who visited the Lefkoşa Police Department to request a record of his entry and exit dates was discovered to have been residing in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) illegally for over 200 days. 

The suspect, identified only as SÖ, a Turkish national has been remanded in custody for one day as part of an ongoing investigation.

According to police testimony delivered in court, the suspect arrived at the police department around 1:00 p.m. on June 11, 2025, to obtain a record of his travel movements. During a routine immigration check, it was found that he had overstayed his legal residency since November 21, 2024—totaling 202 days without a valid permit.

Police stated that SÖ was immediately taken into custody and that an investigation was initiated. Authorities are now working on the necessary documentation to proceed with his deportation.

The court ordered that the suspect remain in police custody for one additional day to facilitate further inquiry.
