Man detained in north Cyprus for kidnapping and robbery

Girne – A suspect, who faces multiple serious charges including robbery, forced abduction, intentional damage, unlawful entry, and breaking and entering, has been ordered to remain in police custody for an additional three days as the investigation continues.

The incident took place on June 8, 2025, and the suspect identified as MB was arrested on June 12 following a criminal complaint, according to police testimony delivered in court.

Police reported that MB allegedly stole the victim's car keys and threatened them with blackmail, saying, “If you don’t come with me, I will publish your videos.” He then reportedly forced the victim into a vehicle and drove them to a wooded area in the Değirmenlik-Dağyolu region, where he struck the victim on the head with a bottle.

The victim managed to escape and flagged down a passing vehicle on a nearby main road before reporting the incident to police. During the investigation, officers found a pair of shoes belonging to the suspect inside the victim’s home, and the footprints matched those at the crime scene.

Investigators also documented the crime scene and confirmed that the victim's belongings — including a bag, credit cards, mobile phone, and laptop — have not yet been recovered. The victim’s car, allegedly taken by the suspect, is also still missing. Police stated that a large number of surveillance camera (KGS) recordings are being reviewed as part of the inquiry.

The judge citing the ongoing nature of the investigation, granted the police request and ordered that the suspect remain in custody for an additional three days.
