Man arrested on return to north Cyprus, five years after he was involved in shooting incident
Lefkosia, Cyprus – A 39-year-old man identified as M.B.A., wanted in connection with a 2020 shooting incident in Boğazköy, has been arrested upon entering Northern Cyprus via Ercan Airport, nearly five years after the crime.
According to a statement issued by the Police Press Office, the incident took place on September 8, 2020, at approximately 1:30 a.m. on Safir Street in Boğazköy. Unknown assailants had unlawfully fired multiple rounds from a handgun at a private residence. The attack, which occurred under the cover of darkness, caused considerable alarm among local residents but fortunately resulted in no reported injuries.
Authorities had launched an investigation immediately after the shooting, but the suspects had evaded capture for years. M.B.A., believed to be directly linked to the incident, had remained at large until his recent arrival at Ercan Airport, where he was identified and detained by police upon entry.
The suspect is now in custody, and the investigation into the case remains ongoing. Police have not yet disclosed whether additional suspects are being sought or if further arrests are expected.
Law enforcement officials emphasized their continued commitment to bringing long-standing cases to justice, regardless of how much time has passed.
