“I regret it”, man arrested for harassing ex-girlfriend while under the influence of alcohol pleads
Lefkoşa, TRNC — A man identified as K.K., who was arrested for allegedly harassing his ex-girlfriend and trespassing on her property while intoxicated, has been released on bail pending trial.
K.K. appeared before the Lefkoşa District Court on Thursday June 12 facing charges of trespassing, intoxication, harassment via telephone, and causing a public disturbance.
According to police testimony, on June 10, the suspect repeatedly sent offensive messages and made harassing phone calls to his ex-girlfriend. Later that day, around 6:30 p.m., he allegedly went to her workplace residence, knocked on the door multiple times, and caused a disturbance.
Police reported that around 7:30 p.m. the same day, the suspect returned to the premises while under the influence of alcohol. He is accused of persistently knocking and then entering through an unlocked door, thereby committing the offense of trespassing. Following a complaint, K.K. was taken into custody but refused to provide a breath sample for an alcohol test.
Police also stated that K.K. had previously committed similar offenses. On July 2, 2024, he was reported for harassment via telephone and disturbing the peace. On July 3, 2024, he was again reported for harassment and for violating the Electronic Communications Law. It was further revealed in court that K.K. had a prior conviction for assault dating back to 2019.
Addressing the court, the suspect said, “I regret it. It won’t happen again.”
After evaluating the evidence and statements, the judge ordered a travel ban for K.K., required him to report to a police station once a week, and mandated the payment of 50,000 TL in cash bail. Additionally, a guarantor must sign a 300,000 TL surety bond to secure his release.
