Greek Cypriot man loses €8,500 in online scam

A 45-year-old man from Paphos south Cyprus lost €8,500 after falling victim to an online scam, police reported on Monday.

According to authorities, the man said he received a message on his mobile phone on Sunday containing a suspicious link. After clicking on it, he was redirected to a website that prompted him to enter his credit card information and complete a "second verification" step.

Shortly after, he received a message indicating that the transaction he attempted had not been completed. However, he was later contacted by his bank and informed that €8,500 had been withdrawn from his account.

Police are investigating the incident and urge the public to be cautious when receiving unsolicited messages or links.
