Employee arrested in Girne for multiple theft offences

An employee of a business operating in Girne has been arrested on multiple charges of theft, including embezzlement and misappropriation of funds.

The suspect, identified as N.Ö. (male, 28), is currently under investigation following a series of incidents that allegedly occurred in early June.

According to police reports, on June 1, N.Ö. took possession of a laptop from another individual for personal use but subsequently sold the device, constituting the offence of "theft by a bailee." Further investigations revealed that N.Ö. also unlawfully retained three mobile phones he had obtained on behalf of his employer from another business.

Additionally, it was discovered that N.Ö. had sold a mobile phone entrusted to him by a third party for resale and kept the proceeds for himself. In a separate incident, N.Ö. reportedly appropriated a sum of 99,000 Turkish Lira that had been mistakenly transferred to him by a bank. The transfer, intended to cover software-related expenses on behalf of his employer, was executed following the employer’s instructions but exceeded the actual amount required.

Upon uncovering the extent of the alleged offences, law enforcement authorities arrested N.Ö. in accordance with a court order. The investigation is ongoing.
