Drunk individual enters apartment through the toilet window: Assaults landlord
Lefkoşa, 9 June 2025 — A man accused of unlawfully entering a residence and assaulting the homeowner has been remanded in police custody for three days, pending further investigation.
the suspect named only as UJ was brought before the Lefkoşa District Court following an incident that occurred in the early hours of 9 June 2025. He faces multiple charges including assault, unlawful entry, nighttime burglary, intentional damage, and public intoxication.
Presenting the case in court, the police stated that the suspect, under the influence of alcohol with a blood alcohol content of 221 milligrams per deciliter, unlawfully entered an apartment on Sadık Cebbar Street at around 3:30 a.m.
The suspect who had been visiting a friend in apartment number 6, allegedly climbed down to the lower-level apartment number 2 by holding onto external drainpipes and accessed the property by pushing open a partially ajar bathroom window without causing visible damage.
According to the police, the residence belongs to B.S., who encountered the suspect upon entry. The suspect allegedly punched B.S. in the mouth when the homeowner attempted to intervene. The suspect also reportedly struck the front door of the residence with such force that it broke, resulting in an estimated damage of 5,000 TL.
The suspect was apprehended at the scene by the homeowner and subsequently handed over to the authorities.
During police questioning, the suspect claimed he entered the residence because he was being chased.
The police informed the court that witness testimonies still need to be collected and that the suspect’s legal status in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) is under review.
The judge, after reviewing the presented evidence, ordered that the suspect remain in custody for an additional three days to allow for further investigative procedures.
The case remains under active investigation.
