Drug bust in Girne: Two suspects arrested, narcotics and cash seized

Girne, Cyprus — Authorities in Girne have arrested two individuals following the discovery of illegal narcotics and a substantial amount of cash during a vehicle and residence search late last night.

According to a statement from the Girne Police Department’s Anti-Crime Unit, officers conducted a search around 11:30 p.m. on 19 Mayıs Street. 

The operation targeted a parked vehicle that had raised suspicion. Inside the vehicle were 23-year-old M.T.M., the driver, and 24-year-old A.D., a passenger. The investigation extended to the suspects' residence.

During the searches, police seized approximately 36 grams of cannabis and 5 grams of cocaine, both believed to be packaged for sale. In addition, authorities recovered a total of 4,700 Turkish lira, 250 U.S. dollars, and 65 euros in cash, believed to be proceeds from drug sales.

Both suspects were taken into custody and are currently under investigation. The seized substances and money were logged as evidence.

The police have not yet released further details regarding potential charges or upcoming court proceedings.
