Syrians migrants rescued from sea off Cyprus

No fewer than twenty-one migrants arrived on boat in Famagusta area in southern Cyrus early on Monday morning.

According to Greek Cypriot police report, the police received information at around 1:00 am on Monday May 5 that a boat was sailing off Cape Greco.

A port police vessel found the boat with 21 migrants on board.

The boat was towed to shore and those on board were taken to Larnaca port to determine their details.

They were found to be Syrians and where then taken to Pournara reception centre.

Police investigations led to a 33-year-old, who was arrested on suspicion of being the trafficker. He will be taken before the Larnaca district court on Tuesday for a remand order.

Larnaca police are investigating.
