Man injured after falling into collapsed septic pit in İskele

İskele, May 27, 2025 — A 21-year-old man, Mehmet Çakırlı, was injured after falling into a collapsed septic pit in the garden of a residence in İskele.

The incident occurred around 5:00 p.m., according to a statement from the Police Press Office.

Authorities reported that Çakırlı was standing on the concrete-covered surface of the septic tank when the structure suddenly gave way. The young man fell approximately seven meters into the pit.

Emergency responders from the fire department quickly arrived at the scene and successfully rescued Çakırlı from the collapsed structure. He was transported by ambulance to Near East University Hospital in Lefkosia.

Medical staff diagnosed a laceration on Çakırlı’s right leg. Following treatment, he was placed under observation for further medical evaluation.

Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collapse and are continuing to examine the scene.

The incident raises concerns about structural safety and the maintenance of septic systems in residential areas.
