Man arrested for staying in north Cyprus without a legal permit faces deportation

Lefkosia, TRNC — A foreign national, was arrested and brought before the court in Lefkosia after it was determined that he had been residing in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) without legal authorization.

Authorities have initiated deportation procedures, and police have requested an extension of his detention.

According to testimony presented at the court by a police officer from the Güzelyurt Criminal Division, the individual named as EM, a Pakistan national, was apprehended during an inspection carried out on May 24, 2025, in the Güzelyurt Industrial Zone. 

A subsequent immigration check revealed that the suspect had been unlawfully residing in the country for for 352 days.

The police stated that the investigation is in its early stages and that steps are being taken to process his deportation. They requested that the suspect remain in custody for an additional three days to facilitate these proceedings.

After reviewing the case, the court ordered that the suspect be remanded in custody for three more days pending further investigation and deportation processing.
