Man accused of r*pping a 14-year old boy he met online in north Cyprus

A 24-year-old man was remanded in police custody on Friday on allegations of r*ppng a 14-year-old boy he met online.

The suspect identified only as AA was brought to court on Friday May 16 charged with r*pe and sexual assault of a child under 16.

Police prosecutor affiliated with the Demirhan Police Station, told the court that the suspect was arrested for having sexual intercourse without a 14-year-old boy whom he met on the internet, through a dating application without his consent. The incident took place, in the mentally disabled toilet of a building in Haspolat on April 4, 2025. 

The police also stated that the suspect had met with the complainant in March-April 2025 and had sexual contact with the child in a car park next to the Indoor Sports Hall of a university where he went, and that he had sexual contact again in the plain between Boğaz and Ağırdağ in the same months.

The police noted that the complaint was made on May 13, 2025, the vehicle used by the suspect was detected on the KGS system on May 14, 2025, and as a result of the investigation and inquiry conducted on the same day, the suspect's name and place of residence were determined, and he was arrested on May 15.

Police said the suspect said in his statement that they met and talked but that there was no sexual intercourse.

The incident came to light after the complainant told her guidance counselor about the incident.

The police requested an additional 3 days of detention, stating that the investigation had just begun, that statements were to be taken, and that the correspondence between the suspect and the complainant needed to be examined.
