Man accused of assault and threat of violence in Gönyeli released on bail
GÖNYELİ — A man identified as B.K. has been released on bail after being charged with “threatening to use violence” and “assault” in an incident that took place in Gönyeli.
The suspect appeared before the court following his arrest on Tuesday May 6.
According to police testimony, the incident occurred on the night of May 4, 2025, around 10:30 PM, at the suspect’s residence in Gönyeli. During a dispute reportedly sparked by jealousy, B.K. allegedly grabbed his partner by the throat, pushed her to the ground, and punched her in the abdomen. He is also accused of brandishing an unidentified knife and threatening, “If your ex-husband comes, I will kill him.”
The victim filed a complaint on May 5, 2025, and underwent a medical examination the same day, which confirmed bruises on her arms, according to a police report.
Police arrested the suspect later that day in Lefkosia and confirmed that the investigative phase that could be influenced by the suspect has been completed. It was also noted that B.K. holds a valid work permit in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) until May 25, 2025.
The presiding Judge ruled that B.K. be released on bail under strict conditions: a travel ban, mandatory weekly check-ins with the police, a cash bail of 45,000 TL, and a guarantor who must sign a surety bond worth 400,000 TL.
