Greek Cypriot takes 12 year old son on a stealing spree, loses custody of son

A 39 year old father has temporarily lost custody of his son, after he took the boy along for a burglary ride in a Nicosia suburb early this morning.

Around five this morning, members of MMAD, the specialised motorised unit, spotted a man on a bicycle acting in a suspicious manner with a child at the back. He was carrying two small travel bags and a shoulder bag, with a crowbar protruding.

He was subsequently stopped and police established that the bag also contained icons and other religious items, for which the man did not provide adequate explanation as to how they came into his possession.

A nylon bag containing a crystalline substance, possibly a narcotic, was also found and confiscated.

He was arrested and was taken along with the child to the Nicosia CID precinct, where it was established that the child was his 12 year old son.

Following a search of his home, police found credit cards, bicycles, electric scooters, computers, tools, and other valuable items, all believed to be stolen.

The 39-year-old was remanded in custody, with the Nicosia CID investigating. The state took temporary custody of his son until the case is resolved.
