Four students arrested for drugs in north Cyprus to remain in detention

The detention period of 4 individuals who were accused of drug trafficking in Lefkosa north Cyprus has been extended by 8 days.

The suspects identified as DOS, CCN., who were arrested on charges of “taking, giving and possessing illegal narcotics” and CSC and CU., who were arrested on suspicion of having links to the crime, were arrested in in Lefkosa and brought to court last week.

They were brought to court again on Tuesday April 29.

Explaining in court, police said that after receiving a tip that the suspects residing in Lefkosia were selling drugs, the Narcotics and Smuggling Prevention Department and the C.Ö.Ş. team affiliated with the Lefkosia Police Department searched the suspects’ homes and found a total of 347 grams of a substance believed to be cannabis, a precision scale believed to have drug residue on it, and a total of 143,380 TL and 20 GBP in cash believed to have been obtained from the sale of drugs.

Police said that the suspects were arrested, an investigation was launched, and they were brought to court and given a 3 days detention order in the first instance.

The police reported that the suspect DOS confessed that he bought 504 grams of cannabis in March 2025, gave 56 grams to CCN for 900,000 Nigerian Naira, that he obtained drugs from a person in Lefkosa on April 25 and gave 80 grams to CCN for 1,350,000 Nigerian Naira, and that he sold the rest to many people he did not know, and sent the money he obtained to his family in Nigeria.

The police officer reported that CCN’s statement said that he had smoked some of the drugs he had received from DOS and sold the rest to many people for 800 lira per package.

The police, who said that the signs had been sent to the laboratory for analysis, noted that there was a wanted person and statements to be taken.

The police stated that the investigation was ongoing, that there were statements to be taken and camera footage to be examined, and requested an additional 8 days of detention.
