Two arrested for living in north Cyprus illegally to remain in police custody

Two individuals who were arrested for living in north Cyprus without a resident permit were remanded in police custody for 7 more days.

The individuals, MU, 28, a Nigerian national and KA, 24, a Syrian national were arrested and brought to court for staying in the TRNC without a residence permit.

Police said KA was detected by narcotics teams during a search of an address in the Göçmenköy area of Lefkosa at around 17:30 on February 12, 2025. Police stated that during the immigration check, it was determined that the suspect had not had a residence permit in the TRNC for 366 days.

Police said MU was arrested for trespassing when he was spotted by a police team on Hasan Tahsin Street in Lefkoşa at around 16:30 on February 11, 2025, and that the suspect had been in the TRNC without a residence permit for 440 days since November 29, 2023.

The police stated that a letter was written to the Civil Immigration Office so that the suspects could be expelled and requested that the suspects be detained for 7 days.
