Student arrested for shouting found to be living in north Cyprus without a resident permit
A foreign national who was found to be living illegally in north Cyprus has been sent to prison for 20 days.
The individual, MZJ, a Liberian was arrested at around 11.30pm on February 12, 2024, while shouting loudly and incomprehensibly without a reasonable excuse in Lefkcosia.
He was arrested and taken to court on charges of living in north Cyprus without a "residence without permit", "drunkenness" and "disorder" in Lefkosia.
Police said a test performed on him determined that he had 277 promil alcohol.
During the immigration check, it was determined that he had been in the country without a residence permit for 660 days, since April 24, 2022.
Noting that the investigation was completed, the police requested that the suspect be sent to prison for a period not exceeding 20 days.
