Turkish Cypriot go to the polls on Sunday to elect a new leader

About 190,000 people are eligible to vote in Sunday’s elections to elect a new leader in the TRNC.

According to report, a total of 198,867 people are eligible to vote on Sunday.

Poll centres will be open between 8:00am and 6:00pm and results are expected to be announced at around 10:00pm.

In a situation where where none of the candidates garners over 50 per cent of votes, a second round will be held on Sunday, October 18.

Eleven candidates are running, seven independents and four backed by parties.
