Beware of counterfeit money, Turkish Cypriot police warns as two people arrested

The police has issued a warning to the general public on the circulation of counterfeit money in the country after two people were arrested for using such money in Lefkosa and Girne.

The announcement was made by the police on Thursday, July 25 after two people were arrested in Lefkosa and Girne on Wednesday, July, 24 for shopping with counterfeit Turkish Lira banknotes.

A number of the banknotes with the serial numbers, A 437 707 766 (100TL) and A 625 255 062 (50TL) were seized from the accused.

Police warns the general public including markets, foreign exchange, financial institutions and consumers to be careful as several of these fake banknotes might still be in circulation in the country.

Anyone found with such money should be reported to the nearest police station.
