Paper Round: Pogba could leave Manchester United for Barcelona as United close in on £60m Toby Alderweireld
Manchester United are close to Toby
Alderweireld but could lose Paul Pogba and Matteo Darmian, while Chelsea
could sign Aaron Ramsey from Arsenal.
United close in on £60m Alderweireld
In a United-heavy Paper Round, Toby Alderweireld leads the way. Manchester United expect to sign Tottenham Hotspur’s
29-year-old central defender in the coming days. Spurs had wanted £75m
for the Belgian international, but United offered just £50m in May. It
had seemed there would be no deal but now it seems £60m could be enough
to get the deal to go through, especially as Alderweireld can leave for
£25m next season.
Pogba could leave for Barcelona
There’s a chance of a dramatic change to United as Mino Raiola
is expected to tell the club that he can broker a £100m deal for the
midfielder to Barcelona. Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain
are also interested in the 25-year-old French World Cup winner, but PSG
have Marco Verratti, a Raiola client and a player who has interested
United in the past, allowing for a potential swap deal. Barcelona could
offer Yerry Mina.
Benfica target Darmian
Matteo Darmian is another player who could be on his way out of
Old Trafford. Juventus have been linked with the Italian international,
and the 28-year-old is also interesting Napoli. However, the club showing interest currently is Benfica. The Portuguese side are rebuilding as they chase Porto, and want to take Darmian on loan, though wages could provide a stumbling block.
Chelsea consider Ramsey bid
Arsenal are prepared to sell Aaron Ramsey. The 27-year-old Welsh
international has just one year left on his current contract, and can
leave on a free transfer at the end of the season. As a result, they
will sell him for a sufficient transfer fee, with the story mentioning a
fee of £35m. Chelsea are interested as Maurizio Sarri accepts Jack Grealish will move to Tottenham Hotspur.
