Dead baby found at recycling plant in Nicosia, south Cyprus

A dead baby girl was on Tuesday morning found at a recycling plant in an area of Nicosia in south Cyprus police said.

According to police report, they received information at around 8am that a dead infant was found in Yeri in a rubbish bag on the sorting belt at a recycling plant in the industrial area by a worker.

State pathologists Nicos Charalambous who was at the scene said the baby bore injuries which might have been caused after it was dumped in the rubbish.
Deputy police spokesman told news men that it appeared the baby was one or two days old.

It is believed she had been dumped in a rubbish bin and was collected by a rubbish truck which dropped it off, along with the rest of the trash at the recycling plant.

Police are investigating among others whether the infant was dead when it was dumped in the rubbish.
