Road accidents in TRNC, a major concern

Road accidents and deaths in the Turkish Republic of North Cyprus, are on the rise and have become a serious concern which must be looked into urgently.

According to statics released by Turkish Cypriot daily, Kibris, on Monday, 37 people have died in road accidents since January this year.

The report adds that in the past five years, 179 people died in road accident while 379 had died in the past 10 years.

On daily basis, there is at least one report of road accidents or death as a result of road accident on social media or Turkish Cypriot dailies. Much have been done by the police and relevant authorities to control these reoccurring trends but to no avail.

Locals and international students on the island have been victims to reckless driving by drivers plying the roads.

Many a time most of the accidents have been attributed to drink driving, over speeding, using of electronic gadget why driving among others but what is the authorities doing to keep this menace under control going into the festive period and the new year.

On our part, just as we expect the government to tighten its rules on motorist, the citizens and road users also have an important role to play.

If you must drink, don't drive and if you must drive, don't drink. every life out there MATTER and is special.
