Price of beef skyrocket in TRNC

No doubt that the recent foreign currency fluctuations and the depreciation of the Turkish Lira against the US Dollar and other major currencies has had its toll on the Turkish Cypriot Market, with beef and meat, the latest commodities to be affected.

According to an article by Turkish Cypriot daily, Gundem Kibris, the depreciation of the Turkish Lira had increased the price of grain and made cow breeding more expensive, thus butchers had to increase the price of meat.

In Lefkoşa, the new prices were as follows: 
Minced beef from 36TL to 40-45TL. 
Lamb liver from 28TL to 40TL. 
Beef steak from 38TL to 46TL. 
Lamb from 44 to 50-55TL. 
Rump Roast from 38TL to 46TL. 
Beef tenderloin from 70TL to 100TL.

The butchers interviewed said that there was an already established association but not active at the moment to curb the speedy acceleration of prices.
