North Korea warns US that it will suffer great pain if sanctions is passed

North Korea on Monday issued a warning to US that it will pay a "due price" for spearheading efforts for stricter sanctions on the regime following its latest powerful nuclear test, which diplomats say the UN Security Council will soon put to a vote.

According to its state-run Korean Central News Agency, who cited a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kim Jong Un’s regime “is closely following US moves with vigilance.”

In case the U.S. eventually does rig up the illegal and unlawful ‘resolution’ on harsher sanctions, the DPRK shall make absolutely sure that the U.S. pays a due price,” it said, using its formal country name.
The forthcoming measures to be taken by the DPRK will cause the U.S. the greatest pain and suffering it had ever gone through in its entire history, KCNA reported.

The warning came as the U.S. called for a vote on Monday on a draft resolution to tighten sanctions on North Korea.

The US had originally drafted a resolution calling for an oil embargo on the North, a halt to its key exports of textiles and subjecting leader Kim Jong Un to a financial and travel ban, but were later watered down to appease Russia and China, which both have veto powers with the new draft only proposing a ban on textile exports.

New sanctions against the regime will be voted on by the U.N. Security Council later on Monday.

The country caused tension in the region when it conducted its sixth nuclear test on September 3, which it said was an advanced hydrogen bomb, drawing condemned from world leaders.
