Nigerian student escaped death as car skid off road barriers

A Nigerian student in Famagusta has escaped death when he skid off the steel barriers separating the Famagusta-Iskele main road on Sunday morning.

According to report, the 25-year-old identified as Isaac, was reportedly under the influence of excessive alcohol while driving along the busy road.

The accident happened close to the Ambelia Restaurant located in Yeniboğaziçi borders.

Police say he fell asleep while driving and that the alcohol test carried out on him showed he was under the influence of about 188 promil alcohol.

The report adds that the BMW luxury car in which he was driving in, was continually in motion due to Isaac's foot being stuck on the gas pedal, and then skid off the steel barriers separating the Famagusta-Iskele main road.

Smoke started coming out from the tires because of the high-speed skating where the car was.

The incident was noticed by the team of the Gazimagusa Traffic Branch, who patrolled the area continuously.

Police also said that he had no valid driver’s license in the TRNC and therefore does not cover the vehicle.

He was arrested by the police and put in detention at the Famagusta Police Department.

Police investigation revealed that Isaac had been a student in the TRNC for 4 years and registered with the Near East University.
