Earth quake in Cyprus

An earthquake measuring 4.1 on the Richter scale struck the southeastern coast of Cyprus on Saturday morning.


The earthquake registered at about 8km depth struck in the Famagusta district some 20km southwest off the Paralimni coast at approximately 8.40am on Saturday.

According to a statement released by the Meteorology Department, an earthquake approximately 67 kilometers awake from the Alevkaya Earthquake Station was measured.

It states that the center of the earthquake was in southeastern Cyprus off the coast of Ayia Napa.

According to the Cyprus Seismological Centre, the epicentre of the earthquake was 20km southwest of Paralimni near the area of Ayia Thekla.

The earthquake was strongly felt in the Famagusta district, and was also felt in the Larnaca district, as well as in some areas of Nicosia.
