Pakistani woman and her boyfriend hanged over affair in honour killing

Pakistan: Pakistani police on Thursday said they have arrested the father, husband and brother of a woman who was tortured and hanged alongside her alleged 21-year-old boyfriend in a family courtyard in the village of Mian Channu, in eastern Punjab province.

According to a local police official Allah Ditta, the woman Khalida Bibi, a married mother-of-three, and her alleged boyfriend, Mohammad Mukhtar, were murdered in a so-called honour killing.

The three arrested men confessed to killing Bibi and Mukhtar for having an affair said Ditta, but gave no further details as the suspects were still being questioned.

Ditta said the bodies of the murdered couple had been taken to hospital for an autopsy.

Hundreds of women are often murdered by their own relatives every year in Pakistan, for going against their families' wishes in matters of love and marriage.
