France Prime Minister warns of new terror attacks
France: France's Prime Minister Manuel Valls on Sunday warned that there will be new attacks in France but said proposals by former
France president Nicolas Sarkozy to boost security are not the right way to
deal with the threats.
Speaking during an interview with Europe 1 radio and
Itele television, Valls said; "This week at least two attacks were foiled."This he said in reference to a dismantled "terrorist cell" that planned to attack a Paris railway station under the direction of Islamic State, a threat that put Paris on high alert.
According to Valls, around 15,000 people who were in the process of being radicalized are on police radar and intelligent services.
"There will be new attacks, there will be innocent victims ... this is also my role to tell this truth to the French people," he said.In an earlier interview by newspaper Le Journal du Dimanche (JDD), former French president Nicolas Sarkozy said the country needed to get tough on militants by creating special courts and detention facilities to boost security.
"He is wrong about trying to wring the neck of the rule of law," Valls said.Sarkozy also proposed that French citizens suspected of having links with militant should be systematically placed in special detention facilities.
"And don't tell me it would be Guantanamo," Sarkozy said.
"In France, any administrative confinement is subject to subsequent control by a judge."
