Football Paper Round: Arsenal are trying to tie Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez down
Arsenal want to sign Ozil and Sanchez to bumper deals
Arsenal are pushing to have Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez signed
to new contracts, according to the Mirror. The report comes as both
players have just two years left on their contracts and the club are
hoping that signing Ozil's friend, Shkodran Mustafi,
will help convince the star to stay. Ozil's new deal will be worth
around £200k a week, while Alexis Sanchez reportedly may be after a
fixed-price get-out clause before committing to a new contract.
Harry Kane starts, Dele Alli dropped
Harry Kane will lead the line against Slovakia on Sunday but
Dele Alli has been dropped, according to the Daily Mail. The report says
that Harry Kane has been given the vote of confidence by Sam Allardyce,
while his Spurs team-mate Alli finds himself in a position where he'll
have to fight for his spot.
England side named against Slovakia
England's side for Sunday's clash against Slovakia has been
named, according to the Mirror. The squad will likely line up in a
4-2-3-1 formation, with the team as follows: Hart; Walker, Cahill,
Stones, Rose; Dier, Henderson; Lallana, Rooney, Sterling; Kane. Eight of the starting eleven were involved in the Euro's defeat at the hands of Iceland, with Chris Smalling, Dele Alli and Daniel Sturridge being the trio from that fateful night who miss out on selection.
Hull City are moving to make Mike Phelan permanent manager,
according to the Mirror. Phelan took over the role as a caretaker after
the club sacked Steve Bruce
in July, but has since proven his worth with two wins from three games
and making six signings on deadline day. Negotiations are still
progressing, as the club is on the verge of being bought out by a
Chinese consortium.
