Pope Francis says Messi is the best player ever in history

Football: Pope Francis has chosen Lionel Messi as the best footballer of all time ahead of the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Pele and Diego Maradona.

The Pontiff who was on a visit to Poland on a trip for the World Youth Day gathering where he was joined by 12 youths for lunch as one of them asked him;

 "Who is better, Maradona or Pele?"

and the pope responded:

"For me, Messi," but gave no reason for his choice.

Pope Francis is a huge football fan and also a lifelong fan of San Lorenzo.


The Barcelona star has won five Ballon d’Or.
