Meet the female assassin hired by her own government to kill drug dealers at £330 per hit

Philippines: Maria not her real name is the female assassin hired to execute drug dealers at £330 per hit on behalf of her government. 'Maria' who moves from one safe house to another safe house always fearing for her life and worried she won't be allowed to quit a murderous assignment.

Maria is one of those caught up in the Philippines' brutal drug war, lead by controversial new Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has come frighteningly good on his warning to drug dealers; "Do not destroy my country, because I will kill you."
President Duterte was voted in as president on a promise to get ride of crime and drug addiction in the country.

According to records released by the police, about 2,000 people have been killed since Duterte became president two months ago.

Maria is now carrying out contract killings taking the lives of often low-level criminals as part of a state-sanctioned war on drugs.

She who has now killed five people was first recruited through her husband who is a police officer.

Speaking to BBC, Maria who is from a poverty-stricken neighbourhood in Manila said;
"One time, they needed a woman... my husband tapped me to do the job. When I saw the man I was supposed to kill, I got near him and I shot him."
Maria said she was hired because officials believe she can get closer to her victims without provoking a suspicion that a man would from their victim.

Maria says she now wants to do one last job but is afraid there's no way out for her and that she could be targeted by the families of those she's assassinated.

Maria who is filled with guilt, tries to open her heart by going for confession but cannot even bring herself to tell the priest what she has done but instead just asks for forgiveness.

She said;
"I feel guilty and it is hard on my nerves. I don't want the families of those I have killed to come after me.
"I do not want them (her children) to come back at us and say that they got to live because we killed for money."
President Duterte has granted police the freedom from prosecution in spite of concerns he has in his bid also legalized mass murder.
