Mark Zuckerberg visits Nigeria
Nigeria: Facebook founder and billionaire, Mark Zuckerberg on Tuesday visited Nigeria on his first trip to sub-Saharan Africa. Zuckerberg is expected to meet with some key players in the Nigerian technology ecosystem.
In a Facebook post to announce his arrival, the world's most popular social media founder said he would be meeting with developers, entrepreneurs and also learning about the start-up ecosystem in Nigeria.
Also a Facebook’s developer workshop is set to take place on Wednesday, and it was announced on Monday that Facebook is partnering with Cool Link to launch Express Wifi in Lagos this week.
In a Facebook post to announce his arrival, the world's most popular social media founder said he would be meeting with developers, entrepreneurs and also learning about the start-up ecosystem in Nigeria.
“The energy here is amazing and I’m excited to learn as much as I can,” Zuckerberg said.
“Our first stop is the Co-creation Hub Nigeria (CcHUB) in Yaba [a community in Lagos State].
“I got to talk to kids at a summer coding camp and entrepreneurs who come to CcHub to build and launch their apps.
“I’m looking forward to meeting more people here,” he added.Other reasons for Zuckerberg's visit to Nigeria may also include; Free Basics launch in Nigeria, Zuckerberg’s support for the Jobberman team, the $24 million invested by the Chan-Zuckerberg initiative in Andela.
