Giant catfish attacks woman in lake

Germany: A Bavarian woman swimming in a lake in Straubing-Bogen in southeastern Bavaria on Wednesday was bitten on her thigh by a two-meter-long catfish. The woman quickly turned around and was able to swim back to the shore for safety but sustained bite and scratch marks to her right thigh said reports.
Experts were able to examined the the large bite left on her leg.

An expert from the Bavarian Fishing Association Johannes Schnell told the SZ that though such incidents are not totally uncommon during spawning season, but pointed out that the catfish was a male and the fish was protecting a pair's eggs.
"If a swimmer comes too near, it can certainly happen that he'll try and scare the competition away," said Johannes Schnell.
Schnell said a catfish is unlikely to launch a life threatening adding that "we can do just as little to prevent them as we can with deer jumping in front of a car."
