New survey reveals Britonts feel less European
The portion of UK citizens who saw themselves as European as well as British felled from 40 per cent to 38 percent between 1996-2004 and 2013.
During the same period, the number of countries and percentage of residents accepting a European identity had increased to 61 percent from from 58 percent .
The biggest rise were in Germany, Austria, Sweden, Finland, and Greece.
The impact of these countries did pushed the overall progression upwards, despite signs from some powerful European countries showing less fervor for the EU.
The Irish Republic had the sharpest decrease, where the number of people identifying themselves as "European" dropped to 46 percent from 53 percent.
France had the second biggest decrease, from 68 percent to 62 percent, but still rank number three in the league of countries with a powerful European identity, after Luxembourg on (77 per cent) and Italy (70 per cent).
