Lionel Messi retires from international football after Argentina failures

Argentina: Argentina international and Barcelona star, Lionel Messi has announced his retirement from international football. Messi made this known after Argentina lost 4-2 on penalities to Chile after a goalsess draw at the MetLife stadium on Sunday. An emotional Messi who missed a penalty during the penalty shoot out, said that he may not represent Argentina again.

When asked by a group of journalist if he was retiring, the 29 years old said;
 "I tried my hardest. It's been four finals, and I was not able to win. I tried everything possible. It hurts me more than anyone, but it is evident that this is not for me. I want more than anyone to win a title with the national team, but unfortunately, it did not happen."
This was the second time in as many years that Chile beat Argentina on penalties in the Copa, after the Albiceleste's loss to Germany in the finals of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

"I feel a great sadness right now that this is happening again," he said. "I missed my penalty, which was super important. That's it."
"My thinking right now and thinking about it in the locker room, I'm done playing with the national team."
Asked if he would wear his country's shirt again.
"I don't think so," he said. "I've thought about it. Like I said earlier, I tried everything possible to win. And that's it. It's four finals lost."

Messi, made his senior international appearance in 2005 going on to score 55 goals from 113 appearances making him the country's all-time top scorer.
