Lightning injures 71 people at a music festival in Germany

 
Germany: At least 71 people have been injured in a storm overnight in West Germany which made organizers to suspend a rock festival.
71 people were hospitalized after lighting struck the Rock am Ring festival near Frankfurt during a heavy storm said a police source.
Chairman of the Eventim company, Klaus-Peter Schulenberg, says organizers are following orders from local authorities to suspend the festival after more warnings of bad weather. He said visitors are being advised to take cover, but the event may restart by 8pm if the weather improves.
A man was seen lying in the mud with marks and burn holes on his pants as emergency services attends to him.

People attending the festival were advised by the organizers to sought for safety few minutes before the awful thunderstorm struck the venue.
Police said “many” people were injured before firefighters and ambulances arrived to treat victims.

The festival is one of the most popular event in Germany.
Bands performing at the festival include Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tenacious D, Korn and Black Sabbath.

Recently, Germany has been hit by acute storms that have caused heavy flooding.

Eleven people, including eight children, were reportedly struck as they took shelter under a tree in Park Monceau.
Elsewhere in Germany this afternoon, 35 people were wounded at a football pitch.
