Former World Bank economist Kuczynski wins Peru presidential election

Peru: Pedro Kuczynski, a former World Bank economist has won majority of votes in Peru's closest presidential election fifty years, said electoral authorities.

The Peruvian electoral board said all ballots had been counted after four days of voting with Kuczynski winning 51.1 per cent against his closest rival Keiko Fujimori with 49.9 percent of votes casted.
Keiko Fujimori, the daughter of imprisoned ex-president Alberto Fujimori has yet to concede defeat.
Supporters trooped out to celebrate outside Kuczynski's campaign headquarters immediately the results were announced. The new president-elect sent a short message on Twitter thanking his countrymen.

"Now it's time to work together for the future of our country," he wrote.

About 50,000 votes remain in dispute but experts say it's almost impossible for Fujimori to make up the approximately 40,000 vote margin to overturn Kuczynski's.
Fujimori was the favourite to win the run-off but lost ground in the final end as fellow conservative Kuczynski warned voters that the corruption and criminality associated with her father's authoritarian rule could return.
