Forbes names Ronaldo World’s highest paid athlete

Sport: According to American business magazine, Forbes, it has named Portuguese and Real Madrid star,  Cristiano Ronaldo as the highest paid athlete in the world.

The three time world footballer of the year, becomes the first footballer to ever top the list of the world’s highest earning athletes.
Ronaldo earned $88m in the last 12 months, $6.6m more than closest rival, Barcelona’s Lionel Messi, who is second.
The Portuguese captain makes £32m in earnings through endorsements.
Ronaldo will be the first athlete since 2000, that someone other than Tiger Woods or Floyd Mayweather tops the list.
Tennis stars, Serena Williams ($28.9m) is at No 40, and newly sanctioned Maria Sharapova ($21.9) is at No 88 making them the only two women in the list.
Forbes’ figures include all salaries and bonuses earned between June 1 2015 and June 1 2016.
