Doctors remove over 200 nails from 15 year old boy’s stomach in China
China: A 15 year old boy from China's Jiangxi
province has had over 200 nails removed from his stomach during an operation, after
allegedly eaten them during the period of one month.
The boy was taken to hospital after complaining to his parents of stomach ache on June 6 but his parents first thought he was suffering from a cold.
Doctors conducted a routine CT scan on him and was shocked to discover the boy's stomach full of nails.
Surgery carried out on the boy, saw doctors remove more than 200 nails and surprisingly other objects such as toothpicks, rocks and coins weighing one and a half pounds were remove from his stomach.
Hospital staff said they haven't seen anything like it before.
The boy then revealed how he had been eaten the nails for about a month. Parents of the boy said they didn't know why their son had chosen to eat sharp objects.
According to Medial experts, the boy could be suffering from Pica, a disorder where a person compulsively eats alien objects such as stones, paint, metal and glass.
