Couple arrested for trying to sell a 3 month old baby
Deputies
said the couple showed up at a neighbor's door and tried to get Carolyn
Redden to buy the child. She refused, but took the child in to care for
her.
The parents of the child have been charged with felony for selling or attempting to sell a child and gross child neglect creating a risk of bodily injury or death to a child.
Deputies said the couple had traveled from the Rupert area of Greenbrier County, leaving at home two other children under the age of 3.
The baby was taken to a hospital and later placed in foster care.
The couple were taken to the Southern Regional Jail on $100,000 bail each.
"Why have a child if you're not going to care for it?" Redden said. "Just because it is hard doesn't mean you give up on a child."
The mother ran away leaving the sick baby at Redden's home. The couple left one soiled diaper and a bottle of spoiled milk.
The child suffering from an illness, was found last Saturday night, abandoned at a home along Chestnut Knob in Layland by the couple when they tried to sell the baby said Deputies."I ran out and got diapers and more bottles for her," Redden said. "She was shaking, clinching her fists, crying and screaming."
