Beyonce wins the CFDA Style Icon Award

Fashion: US music icon and star, Beyoncé has won this year's CFDA Fashion Icon Award. The Award was presented to her by designer Diane Von Furstenberg on Monday night.

"I feel so much love and I feel so proud right now," she said while accepting her award in a pinstriped, crystal-embellished Givenchy suit and a "Formation"-style wide-brim hat. "Thank you guys for this incredible honor."
Beyoncé acknowledge her mother and grandmother in her speech. She said they introduced her to fashion.
"As long as I can remember, fashion has always been a part of my life. It's effect on me actually started before I was born," she recalled. "Most of you guys don't know this, but my grandmother was a seamstress. My grandparents did not have enough money, they could not afford my mother's Catholic school tuition. So my grandmother sewed clothes for the priests and the nuns and made the uniform for the students in exchange for my mother's education," she said.
"When we were starting out in Destiny's Child, high-end labels, they didn't really want to dress four black country curvy girls," Beyoncé said. "And we couldn't afford designer dresses and couture. My mother was rejected from every showroom in New York. But like my grandmother, she used her talent and her creativity to give her children their dreams." Beyoncé revealed her mother designed many costumes for Destiny's Child, as well as her prom dress, first CFDA dress and first Grammy dress.
Beyonce also made a nod to everyone's favorite Mother of Dragons, Game of Thrones's Daenerys Targaryen: "When I wore these clothes on stage, I felt like Khaleesi."
She also extended her gratitude to all the designers present:
"I want to say thank you to every designer that works tirelessly to make people feel like they can write their own story," she said.
The Style Icon Award came as a surprise, as it was not promoted along with the other awards being presented.
Jay Z and Blue Ivy also attended to support Beyonce.
